How does true love begin?

Can buying nice things for someone make him or her love you?
Read Luke 12:15
NLT "Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”
NASB "Then He said to them, “ Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”

Read about Prince Treasurechest

What did the princess learn about Prince Treasurechest?
Do you think he was trying to buy her love?
Read Luke 12:34, Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

What did she realize?

Read
Paragraph 1 sentence 3

Read paragraph 2
Proverbs 23:4-5 "Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle."

Read paragraph 3

Read

Luke 12:21-23 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing.

Read paragraph 4
Read Ephesians 5:25-28
For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself.

What is more important, having nice things or doing what God wants you to do?

Psalm 52:6-7 "They will laugh and say, Look what happens to mighty warriors who do not trust in God. They trust their wealth instead and grow more and more bold in their wickedness. The righteous will see it and be amazed."

Which leads to true and lasting happiness?

Psalm 62:10
Don’t make your living by extortion
or put your hope in stealing.
And if your wealth increases,
don’t make it the center of your life.

Read 1 Timothy 6:17-19 "Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

Questions for adults: Are you materialistic?
Are things more important to you than following the word of God?
What attitudes about money are you modeling for your daughter?

Let's help our daughters develop a heart for God and not for things by the example we set and leading them to scripture. Read Luke 12:43, If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward.
